Readings of the day

  • Epistle

    Philippians 2:12–16

    Show the text

12So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.

14Do all things without complaining and arguing,

15that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world,

16holding up the word of life, that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ, that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain.

  • Gospel

    Luke 9:18–22

    Show the text

18As he was praying alone, the disciples were with him, and he asked them, “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”

19They answered, “ ‘John the Baptizer,’ but others say, ‘Elijah,’ and others, that one of the old prophets has risen again.”

20He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

21But he warned them, and commanded them to tell this to no one,

22saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”
