1Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went early, while it was still dark, to the tomb, and saw the stone taken away from the tomb.

2Therefore she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have laid him!”

3Therefore Peter and the other disciple went out, and they went toward the tomb.

4They both ran together. The other disciple outran Peter, and came to the tomb first.

5Stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths lying, yet he didn’t enter in.

6Then Simon Peter came, following him, and entered into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying,

7and the cloth that had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself.

8So then the other disciple who came first to the tomb also entered in, and he saw and believed.

9For as yet they didn’t know the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

10So the disciples went away again to their own homes.

    2 Corinthians 9:6–11

6Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

7Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work.

9As it is written, “He has scattered abroad. He has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever.”

10Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness,

11you being enriched in everything to all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us.

    Luke 16:19–31

19“Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.

20A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was taken to his gate, full of sores,

21and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22The beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried.

23In Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom.

24He cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.’

25“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But here he is now comforted, and you are in anguish.

26Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that no one may cross over from there to us.’

    27“He said, ‘I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house;

28for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, so they won’t also come into this place of torment.’

29“But Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’

30“He said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’

31“He said to him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.’ ”
