Feasts
Pentecost — Trinity Sunday
The descent of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church.
The event
On the fiftieth day after Pascha the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles in tongues of fire (Acts 2). In the Russian tradition the feast is called Trinity Day; churches are decorated with birch branches and grass.
Worship
Immediately after the Liturgy, Vespers with the kneeling prayers is served — the first kneeling since Pascha. Monday is the Day of the Holy Spirit; the week after the feast is fast-free.
